Basic Safety Features

There is a large amount of work that goes into the design of all stairlifts in order to ensure their safe operation and that people using them are not at risk from any accidents. Stair lifts use a range of basic safety features including seat belts, obstruction sensors, and smooth start/stop technology.

Obstruction sensors detect any obstruction that may be in the way of the stairlift’s tracks, helping to prevent the device from colliding with anything on the stairs. These safety sensors usually use infrared technology or pressure-sensitive edges to detect any objects that may be in the way of the tracks.

Stair lifts are designed to fold the seat away when not in use, ensuring that it does not get in the way of foot traffic. Some stairlifts also have the option to add a swivel seat for easy entry and exit at both the top and bottom of the staircase. Without this feature, users will have to twist themselves while attempting to exit the stair lift at either the top or the bottom of the stairs, increasing their chances of falling.
